“Who are you?” they ask. He starts talking about his company.

Ask a Founder who he is. He’ll start telling you about his company.

Then ask him who he’d be, if the company wasn’t there.

It’s not his fault. His life and his company grew up together. They became the same thing.

The problem shows up later. When he realises the brand has no identity of its own. That the market remembers him, not the organisation he built.

A strong Founder builds a brand that outlives its Founder.

And to do that, before talking about the brand, he has to stop being the brand.
